Saturday

AJ wrapped herself in one oversized luxurious towel and rubbed her wet hair with another. Compared to the compact dimensions of the shower in her little cottage at home, the expansive glass-walled version with the fancy rain-style showerhead was hard to leave. But she was pushed for time, so now she would test her ten-minute turnaround performance.

Jackson was already dressed and sat on the bed, leaning against the headboard, looking at her thoughtfully.

“What are you gawking at?” she asked, grinning.

“A beautiful, intelligent woman,” he replied, “who chose not to tell her loving boyfriend about an incident that bothered her, and I’m trying to figure out why that is.”

“Bloody hell,” she said, taken aback but grinning. “I was expecting more of the ‘give us a flash’ sort of comment. You went for ‘let’s talk about deep and meaningful stuff’.”

He laughed. “A quick flash never hurts, believe me, but I was hoping you’d help me understand the other part.”

AJ plonked herself down on the edge of the bed and continued drying her hair, mulling her answer over before she spoke. “I don’t know why, really. I wasn’t trying to hide anything, it was just weird to explain. I was going to say something, well I did, actually…”

“You said you ran into the guy,” Jackson interrupted, “but you didn’t say he was hitting on you, and wigged you out.”

“Once he was gone, somehow it all seemed silly,” she replied. “I didn’t feel physically threatened, he just gave me the willies, and I can’t say something every time a guy hits on me.”

“I’m sure guys hit on you all the time,” Jackson said. “You’re gorgeous, and you know I’m not the jealous type, I trust you completely. I hope you do know that. But I’d also hope you’d tell me if someone made you feel that uncomfortable.”

AJ groaned. “I didn’t mean it to sound like ‘guys are always hitting on me’,” she protested, blushing, “but I didn’t want to bother you or worry you over something that didn’t seem like a big deal.”

“Does it seem like a big deal now?” he asked in a soft, conversational tone.

AJ took a moment. Her first reaction was to defend herself, but she knew he was right and if she had the moment over, she would have said something.

“I get your point,” she relented. “Of course, now, I wish I’d handled things differently. I’m sorry, I’ll say something next time.”

“Thank you,” he said, and smiled, looking deep into her eyes until she felt like he could see how much she loved him.

“But you can’t go all Rambo if I tell you some bloke looks at me a bit odd,” she said, shuffling over the bed towards him.

“Me?” he replied, pointing to himself. “What about me has ever told you I’d go Rambo on anyone?”

She rested her chin on his chest and he put an arm around her. “The look you had on the boat when the whole story came out,” she explained. “You were ready to join the mob with the rest of the villagers, pitchforks and all.
